The Black Pearl from "Pirates of the Carribean" is here for filming this summer. Hunter and I had to go check it out...it is in a shipyard, being taken apart and transformed into Black Beard's ship. We are very curious to see what the ship will look like and couldn't resist some pirate posing pictures....aaarrrrggh!
Hiking Kawai Ridge with my adventure club...beautiful views, some challenging spots and a lot of weed walking!
Swamp Romp team for 2010- Tutens and Boylans ROCK!! We finished 1.05:37, in 5th place out of 150 mixed (3male, 3 female) teams and 29th out of 417 total teams!!
The last mud pit, my team is right down the middle...wait for me!!
Ashley did a gave a great effort until we got to the beach and had to run in the sand. This is 3/4 of the way through the race. I tried to encourage her to run, but she said- no way, I'm walking. The look on her face says it all!
Ashley is on the far left of the picture in the brown tank top- Go Ashley
Ashley and Colleen are on the far left...we were on the move and sliding through the mud...5 miles is a long way when your pants weigh 20lbs...not many pictures of Hunter because he stayed up front with Dad.
Here we are after the race...Hunter had a cold and gave all he had during the race, but as soon as we were done, he was caput and wanted to take a shower and rest. I don't blame him, but he turned into a super grouch and didn't want to take any pictures..not sure if that is the cold or teenager in him speaking. We left and headed to the beach.Aaaaahhh refreshments!
Hunter just threw his shoes away after he finally got them off..there were trash cans everywhere full of muddy clothes/shoes; I took ours to the local laundromat to wash, they went through twice and came out clean as a whistle.
The boys found a little blow hole down by the tide pools...add to that a plastic bottle and you have a cool experiment
two pals after a long race
Ashley gave de-shoeing and de-gucking instructions to the boys
The team after the race...boy did we smell! I think they brought that mud in from a pasture!
We stayed at Kaneohe Bay for the weekend- that's the swamp romp location-it gave us a little more time to sleep in, a wonderful place to relax after the race, and some amazing views! We brought the kayaks, grillin' tools and smore's supplies...our friends stayed too and we had some great family time. Only downside, our room had a flat screen tv that Ashley didn't let go to waste- we didn't see her too much except in the mud
the boys out for a little early morning fishing
Jacob and Hunter looking for bait
what a beautiful sunrise
Hunter- the crab licker
amazing sunset!
There's Ashley...out for an hour...then back to tv and air conditioning
Hunter and his friends had the day off from school, so I took them to Makapu'u for tide pool adventuring, mountain climbing, whale watching and a picnic lunch...we had a terrific day!
Windy cliff side...leave it to boys to figure out a way to make that a fun experience...
our tide pool destination....a nice walk down, but a dooozy hiking back up!

aaaaahhhhh....what a way to spend a day off from school
I wouldn't let them get near the cliff edge and this is why...the rogue wave
I wouldn't let them get near the cliff edge and this is why...the rogue wave
The wave filled the tide pool above Hunter and sent a mountain of frothy water cascading over him...yaaahoooo
Before the wave
The Great Aloha Run~ 8.15 miles of road racing with 25,000 of our not-so-closest friends...us before the race
Can you spot Ashley turning the corner after crossing the finish line...Hunter and I waited for her in the stands of the Aloha Stadium..we finished 1 hr 20 min, Ashley finished a little later, she walked the last 4.5 miles.

Post-race sweaty faces...did we do all that for a t-shirt???
Ashley came in 1st place for her district swim meet....off to the big island for states!

a little site seeing for us...rainbow falls was super low because of our lack of rain, so we got to see some neat areas that are usually under water
this is a lava tube at the Kilauea Volcano National Park
The boys found a little blow hole down by the tide pools...add to that a plastic bottle and you have a cool experiment
This fun little blow hole brought quite a while of entertainment...they got blasted by the wind roaring through the tiny space..it sounded like a big dragon and they thought it was soooo cool. I never let them get near the blow holes because they usually spray water...this one was far enough away from the cliff edge and a calm ocean day- great combination for a new experience
